To what extent did I choose an issue that I genuinely care about?
What did I learn from this process that will help me with my senior project? (Research skills? Ways of being effective in making an impact? Etc..)
What was the most valuable/informative/interesting part of this assignment?
What is one thing Ashley could have done to improve this project the most? OR What is one thing YOU could have done to improve your own work?
- The issue I decided to research I honestly cared about and it motivates me to help others in my community. They carry stories that hold lots of weight, yet they do it for their families. By the end of the year I want to have a more professional folder with more resources and possibly have a workshop to help students. I believe much of the time as a hispanic student, we navigate our college process alone. This can be difficult and very stressful but I want to alleviate the stress and be a guide for future generations.
What did I learn from this process that will help me with my senior project? (Research skills? Ways of being effective in making an impact? Etc..)
- This will help me with my senior project, to improve my research skills as well try to not be bias in my own research. I made sure to check for credibility and applying this to all my research. I learned there are many individuals that are willing to help you, you should just ask. The biggest thing I learned through this process is attempting to write clearly and by the end of my senior thesis paper my goal is to have a paper that is very refined and professional. In the apply your knowledge category of the portfolio it has helped me tremendously to try to apply the philosophies we studied into my own life.
What was the most valuable/informative/interesting part of this assignment?
- It was just all the knowledge I acquired from this project, and my overall growth as student in the digging deep part of the portfolio. I have felt I am able to voice my opinions and even though I have ways to go, I have improved my public speaking skills. My biggest takeaway was going to Kat's room and listening to her guest speaker Kendra speak about her life as a Daca Recipient. Her presentation of the many misconceptions people have of her and she said please before judging walk a mile in their shoes. No matter what life throws at us, and even when we get angry, we must t persevere through and prove others wrong.
What is one thing Ashley could have done to improve this project the most? OR What is one thing YOU could have done to improve your own work?
- I think we could have had an extra day for part 3, 4, and 5 just to have everything be more organized. I want to improve my work by making my folder/spreadsheet neater and more professional. Finding an appropriate audience to share the resources I have found and make a bigger impact on students.
